<p><a title="Map of Yerki" href="https://maps.google.com/maps?q=48.9780556+N+30.9919444+E&amp;safe=off&amp;t=h&amp;z=15" target="_blank">Yerki is a village</a> in Zvenigorodka District, Ukraine.  It is 125km (25 walking hours) from Kanev.  Could the Yaroker family name mean, &#8216;<em>that fellow from Yerki</em>&#8216;?</p>
<p>Beiber&#8217;s surname dictionary uses the <a title="Russian Duma Voter Lists for Kiev" href="http://findfollow.com/blog/resources/state-archives/voter-lists/russian-duma-voter-lists/">Duma Voter List</a> as a source.  The 1906 Duma List lists three Yaroker voters in Kanev.  <a title="Bicycling to Kaniv" href="http://findfollow.com/blog/towns/kaniv/bicycling-to-kaniv/">There are many Yarokers in Kanev</a>.  The citation of Kherson is interesting and may come from a census.  This deserves further investigation.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The Yaroker family name is spelled Ярокер in Russian and Ярокеръ in the old style. In the 1906 Duma voter list for Kanev, there were three Yaroker voters.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The Yaroker name is spelled in Hebrew as: ירוקר. &#8220;Yarok&#8221;, the root of the name, is spelled יָר֫ק which means <em>greenery</em>, <em>vegetable</em>, <em>verdu</em>.  Perhaps the Yaroker family name is derived from forestry or farming activities.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p class="dt-important-paragraph dt-secondary-body-text" style="text-align: justify;">Yurevich in 1881 was known as Jurewicze.  It is described in the <a title="Geographical Dictionary of the Polish Kingdom" href="http://findfollow.com/blog/project/geographical-dictionary-of-the-polish-kingdom/">Geographical Dictionary of the Kingdom of Polish and other Slavic Countries</a>, Volume III.</p>
<h4>Jurewicz in 1881</h4>
<p style="text-align: justify;">1) Jurewicz is a small town in the former province of Minsk, near the Rechitsa district.  The river Pripyat runs on the left bank with tributaries Brahin and Chojnik flowing to Mozyr.  Lithuanian Jesuits settled in the area in 1726 and built a magnificent temple.  Jesuits were moved to Bernardine.  A Catholic parish was then established in 1866 belonging to the Mozyr-Rechitsa deans with a chapel in Hliniszczu.  The village has about 140 houses, 900 inhabitants, a police station and a rural school.  The municipality is comprised of 18 rural areas, 43 villages and has 2,335 peasants.  Jurewicz is beautiful, an oasis amount the marshes of Rechitsa.  Stanislaus August [gave privileges?] to the town in 1778.  Jesuit historian Rostowski does not mention the city although it is important to his order.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">2) Jurewicz is a small farm village in the Poleska municipality. [Shumen State] north of the city Ihumonia.  In the fifteenth century, the village belonged to the Kieżgajłłów family. Stanislaw Kieźgajłło in 1447 gave the property to Vilnius bishops.  After 1795, Empress Catherine II [received/took?] several Szewiczowi manors. The Jurewicz municipality consists of 7 townships, 42 villages and has ?? 1960. There is a parish church, school and country [mail?]. The Szewiczów ownership comprises 30000 mr of sandy soil farmland.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">3) Jurewicz is found in the Ihumenskim area north of Ihumenia town on the road. It was owned by the former bishops of Vilnius and now owned by the Szewicza officer [??].</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">4) Jurewicz community numbers 1,137 souls.</p>

Jezuici litewscy mieli tu swoją misyą od roku<br />
1726 i zbudowali wspaniałą świątynię. Po je-<br />
zuitach byli tu bernardyni, później kapucyni.<br />
Parafia katolicka przetrwała w Jurewiczach do<br />
r. 1866 (należała do dekanatu mozyrsko-rze-<br />
czyckiego i miała kaplicę w Hliniszczu), wte-<br />
dy bowiem kościół został zamieniony na cer-<br />
kiew. Miasteczko ma około 140 domów, 900<br />
mieszk.; mieści się tu biuro II okr, polic.; jest<br />
szkółka wiejska. Gmina się składa z 18 sta-<br />
rostw wiejskich, 43 wsi i liczy 2335 włościan<br />
płci męzkiej. Jurewicze sa prawdziwą malow-<br />
niczą, oazą śród głuchych topielisk polesia<br />
rzeczyckiego. Posiadają przywileje króla Sta-<br />
nisława Augusta z r. 1778. Historyk jezuitów<br />
Rostowski nie wspomina o tern miejscu chociaż<br />
miało ono ważne znaczenie dla Polesia pod<br />
względem misyi tego zakonu. Dobra, J. w po-<br />
wiecie rzeczyckim, niegdyś Oskierków,od roku<br />
1875 kupca Bakunienki, mają obszaru przeszło<br />
